I've always loved video games and because of that I decided to share my opinions without forcing them down people's throats. As much as I hate blogging and social networking I accept that reading a blog is the choice of a reader, and therefore I can write what I want and if you don't like it, you can go somewhere else. for those of you who do like what I write, thankyou. This isn't for personal gratification but if I get one email that says "Hi, I played (insert game here) and I loved it, thanks." I'll feel like I accomplished what I set out to do.
The Conduit (Wii) Much maligned is the Wii with "serious" gamers, also known as 18 year old COD4 fanboys who will assume a Master System cartridge is a novelty coaster (I've seen it happen.) Ignore them, The Conduit is a solid shooter with a unique lock on system, think Perfect Dark and Zelda: Ocarina of Time having a baby.
Star Trek: Starfleet Academy (PC) The best of a large crop of good Star Trek games. Highly advanced for it's age and with good cameos from many of the original series cast.
Freelancer (PC) Not the longest storyline, but certainly an engrossing space shooter with a stunning in game universe.
Diablo 1&2 (PC). We've got Diablo 3 coming out this year, it's an ongoing storyline and well worth playing through the first two games to either reaqquaint yourself with them or to experience something new.
The Elder Scrolls: Arena (DOS), Daggerfall (DOS), Morrowind (PC, Xbox, Xbox360) and Oblivion (PC, PS3, XBOX360.) The Xbox versions of Morrowind and Oblivion are fantastic but get the PC version if you can. Daggerfall is available for free on the official Elder Scrolls website. Arena isn't as easy to get hold of but the ROM isn't unavailable if you google it. You'll need DOSBox for the first two but it's free and easy to set up once you have it. These are good solid RPG's with captivating storylines and convincing worlds.
Icewind Dale (PC). Get the triple pack with Icewind Dale 1 and the Expansion + Icewind Dale 2. It's good value for three stunning games and runs very well on any PC.
